MaxFM WAINGAPU – People with mental disorders (ODGJ) hope to be cured or have their behavior under control. The Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, better known as Risma, conveyed this during a work visit to the Kanatang Community Health Center, Kanatang District, East Sumba Regency of East Nusa Tenggara.
In a dialogue session with people with disabilities and the ODGJs whom their respective families accompanied, Risma said that currently, there is a medicine that can only be used once a month.
Understanding the daily struggles of ODGJ patients and their families, the Minister empathetically shared, “If ODGJ has to take medication every day, it is quite burdensome for the patient and the family who care for them, but now there is a medication that can be given just once for a month,” she suggested on Thursday (03/05/2024).
Risma promised to help as soon as possible so that all community health centers in East Sumba can provide medicine for ODGJs, which only need to be injected once a month.
During the meeting with residents and the East Sumba regional leadership, Risma promptly addressed their concerns and requests, instilling a sense of hope and optimism among the attendees.
During the dialogue, Sisters from the Alma Orphanage in Umamapu asked for help putting room partitions. Hence, men and women have separate spaces. Risma immediately agreed to assist, including a request for a walking aid for one of the Alma Orphanage children. The walking aid was immediately given to the Nurse Head of the Orphanage.
People with disabilities were also present. They asked about the possibility of receiving business capital assistance to work independently. Again, Risma immediately agreed to assist.
Responding to the villagers’ plea for clean water assistance, Risma expressed a strong commitment, stating that she would personally oversee her team’s assessment of the residents’ needs in the regency,as long as there is a water source available for drilling, Risma pledges to assist. [HD]
