MaxFM WAINGAPU – Residents in east Sumba were happy to bring home 10 kilograms of Bulog rice. It is one form of non-cash food assistance provided by the government. Earlier, residents had received coupons to buy rice at the second Cheap Food Movement or Gerakan Pasar Murah (GPM) in 2024. The event took place at the East Sumba Agriculture and Food Office.
GPM offers 5 kilograms of bulog rice for IDR 55.000. The price is affordable compared to the market price, soaring to around IDR 17.000 per kilogram.
East Sumba Regent, Khristofel Praing, in his office Friday (22/03/2024), told MaxFM Waingapu that the regional government would try to introduce GPM to help the community get affordable rice.

“I thank the multi-stakeholders such as BAPANAS, Bulog Waingapu, East Sumba Resort Police, and other parties who have supported the Cheap Food Movement in East Sumba, [I] hope that this effort can control the price of rice in East Sumba,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the East Sumba Agriculture and Food Service, Nicolas Pandarangga, explained his Service distributed 10 tons of rice from Bulog Waingapu for this GPM.

“We have arranged the GPM so residents do not overcrowd. There are 1000 coupons for rice. With one coupon, residents can purchase 10 kilograms of Bulog rice for IDR 11.000 per kilogram,” explained the Head of the East Sumba Agriculture and Food Service, Nicolas Pandarangga.
Nicolas also mentioned that this GPM also offers granulated sugar, garlic, and vegetables.

Nicolas Pandarangga added that something was interesting about the GPM at the Agriculture and Food Office this time. The office supplies chicken eggs brought from the Patawang Village Bumdes and Mamoli Salt produced by the regional company so people can buy them on the spot.
People are seen returning home with big smiles while carrying Bulog rice as a source of carbohydrates for the family. For IDR 55.000 per bag of 5 kilograms, it is the cheapest price compared to those sold in Waingapu for the same quality. [HD]
